During Star Trek: The Original Series, Spock's emotional human half fought with his logical Vulcan self. After the series ended, Spock went home to Vulcan to undertake the Kolinahr discipline, with which he hoped to purge his human emotions. Unfortunately, Spock failed at this task, and he never got to wear this medallion.
