Provenance: Lord Aldenham (1819-1907; bookplate); Henry Hucks Gibbs (signature and purchase note on flyleaf); another owner's signature and name on bookplate deleted.
ONE OF 40 LARGE-PAPER COPIES, comprising a complete set of the sale catalogues of the Bibliotheca Sussexiana, the only complete record of the Duke's vast library. "The six sales...produced but a small portion of what he had spent on them...because they took place in the years when prices were at their lowest. The two biggest buyers were Sir Thomas Phillipps and the British Museum" (De Ricci).
