Portrait of Nordenskjöld printed in two colours, portrait of Andersson, 100 plates (7 coloured, 16 tinted), 6 maps (4 coloured, 3 of these folding), numerous illustrations, many full-page. Original publisher's dark maroon half morocco, the covers tooled in blind, the spines gilt, in five compartments, lettered in the second, numbered in the fourth, the others with repeat decoration in gilt of a small centrally-placed flower-spray tool (spines somewhat faded).
AN EXCELLENT COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION. A shorter English-language edition (in one volume) (Antarctica, or, Two years amongst the ice of the South Pole) was published by Hurst and Blackett in London in 1905. Cf. Conrad p.103; Spence 856.
