The Child's Own Book of Animals, [London:] Darton & Co., [c.1840]. Oblong 4° (270 x 375mm). Hand-coloured lithographed frontispiece, title and 11 plates. (Some very light staining and offsetting.) Original black textured cloth decorated in blind with elaborate gilt and enamelled title panel on upper cover (inner hinges weak). Provenance: "For my dear Grandchildren ..." [remainder of inscription illegible but dated 1844]; "Note: enamelled colour on binding - Earliest example found" (pencil note by Dr. Temple).
