This bell was found by John Moody, artist, who was one of the executors of Sir Alfred Gilbert. Apparently Sir Alfred produced the piece for King Edward VII but he failed to finish it. John Moody found it when he was clearing out Sir Alfred's studio after his death, the heavily tarnished piece being used as a doorstop. It was found to be silver and subsequently sent to be assayed and hallmarked in Birmingham.
