    'The Shadow of the Gendarme', the silk leaf painted with the shadow of a gendarme disturbing child pierrots steeling apples over a wall, the reverse with a scene beyond the wall, bearing signature S. Drinot to recto, with tortoiseshell sticks decorated with floral motifs, one guard carved with a gendarme with applied ivory face and hands, the other decorated in gilt with a floral spray--11in (28cm. High), French second half 19th century, contained within a glazed fan shaped case, also complete with red satin covered box, stamped in the interior DUVELLOROY
