The sitter, Anne, Lady Trevor (d.1747), was the daughter of Sir John Trevor, of Brynkinalt, co. Denbigh, and Jane (d.1704), widow of Roger Puleston, of Emrall. In 1690 Anne married Michael Hill, Member of Parliament for Saltash, England, and Hillsborough, Ireland. Following his death she married the 1st Viscount Midleton, Lord Chancellor of Ireland (d.1728), in 1716.
