INDENTFlying Officer James Pipe, born 1898 and educated at the King's School Canterbury; served as a Cadet in the Royal Flying Corps and was appointed Temporary Second Lieutenant 30 August 1917; Flying Officer 7 January 1918; promoted Lieutenant (Aeroplanes and Seaplanes) Royal Air Force, 1 April 1918; served with 52nd Wing R.A.F. in Afghanistan and was killed in a flying accident, 1 January 1920. He is commemorated on the Karachi 1914-18 Memorial, Karachi War Cemetery.
Captain Alfred William Pipe, father of Flying Officer J.Pipe, a retired Major (T.F.), was employed by the Ministry of Labour from 24 June 1915.
