THREE LEAVES FROM BOOKS OF HOURS, in Latin, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM
Leaf with an historiated initial S (for the Salve regina) with the Virgin and Child enthroned, the finely drawn and detailed figures against a gilded diaper ground, leading to a three-sided bar of pink, blue and gold with a full border of delicate burnished gold leaves and disks on hairline tendrils between acanthus sprays; illuminated initial with partial border on recto for prayer concluding compline of the Office of Virgin, followed by compline of Hours of Cross. 17 lines, 172 x 121mm (text of the Salve regina erased, edge of initial rubbed).
A leaf with the suffrage to St Anne with illuminated initials, two marginal borders and a small miniature of St Anne with the Virgin and Child by the Master of Edward IV. 14 lines, 134 x 90mm (tear to corner not affecting decoration).
A collage of border fragments around a miniature of the Visitation, miniature 116 x 72mm, whole 132 x 87mm (some wear and repaint)
