8o. Original cloth-backed decorated boards; dust jacket (spine panel slightly faded, very minor wear at edges). Provenance: Samuel Hopkins Adams (1871-1958), American author (presentation inscription from the author).
FIRST EDITION, trade issue, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Thurber to Samuel Hopkins Adams on the front free endpaper: "For Sam Adams, with love, Jim." With a sketch of one of his famous "Thurber dogs" beneath the inscription initialled "JT." Adams's "Grandfather Stories" were published in the New Yorker in 1955, an association which possibly resulted in his connection to Thurber. A NICE ASSOCIATION COPY.
