2° (315 x 245mm). Double-page engraved title by P. Vansomer after L. Laguerre, and 19 double-page plates by P. Vanderbanck, M. Vandergucht, P.P. Bouche and B. Gentot after the author. (All on modern stubs, some slight soiling, a few marginal tears repaired.) Contemporary mottled sheep (rebacked and corners repaired with modern calf). Provenance: Thomas Mills (armorial bookplate).
FIRST EDITION of the first English book on ironwork, very rare. The author worked in England from 1689 to 1712 at Hampton Court, Chatsworth, Burley and Drayton, where these designs were used, and at St. Paul's under Wren.
