Two 40-Bore French Flintlock Pistols
The first by Joseph Dumaras, circa 1730, the second by Brardy L'an St. Etienne, circa 1780
The first with tapering barrel with gold-damascened decoration at the breech, engraved tang, signed engraved flat bevelled lock, moulded lightly carved walnut full stock, engraved iron mounts including spurred pommel, and later ramrod; the second with two-stage barrel, signed rounded lock, moulded walnut full stock carved with flowers and foliage behind the barrel tang, moulded iron mounts including spurred pommel, and later ramrod (both pistols with some minor pitting)
