INDENT1832 Private Sydney Bayliss Houghton, born Liverpool, volunteered for active service August, 1914. He was killed in action North-West of Hill 60, Belgium 5 May 1915 when he volunteered with a friend to deliver a despatch; after completing the service he was mortally wounded when a shell burst nearby (see page 124 of the Regimental History for details of the Bn. in this day's action)
1643 Corporal William Porteous, born 1889, Edinburgh, enlisted in the King's Liverpool Regiment and served in France and Belgium from February 1915. He was killed in action at Guillemont 7 August 1916 and was buried in Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt, France. (The George Herriot's School Roll of Honour and the Watsonian War Record refer).
Second Lieutenant Harold Edgar St. George formerly Von Heyder educated at Harrow, joined the Inns of Court O.T.C., April 1915, and was commissioned in the 10th Suffolks in July; transferred to the King's Liverpool Regiment and went to France May 1916. His Company, in support of the South Lancs, attacked the enemy lines before Guillemont 13 August 1916 and he was last seen on the parapet of the third enemy trench covering a German with his revolver. His men saw him fall before they retired - his body was not found after the position was successfully taken two days later.
