India, 18th/19th century
235 x 135 mm. Each book cover made of layers of paper gessoed and then beautifully painted, with purple flowers against a red background on the interior, and a golden field of vines and flowers with green and red borders on the exterior. Minor losses to edges and corners, remnants of leather spine intact.

These papier mache book covers are Persian, late 18th or first half 19th century.
