Two Meissen models of cows
CIRCA 1735, TRACES OF BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK TO LEFT COW, RIGHT COW WITH BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK
Both modelled standing to the left with their tails curled round their left flanks, the left cow with irregular black and grey markings, the right cow with irregular reddish-brown markings, each with pale-brown curly hair between their horns and supported below by tree-stumps applied with foliage, on moulded and incised shaped oval turquoise and yellow grassy mound bases applied with foliage (both with restoration to horns, minute wear to enamels, chipping to foliage and lower edge of bases, left cow with one teat lacking, minute chip to right ear and firing faults to two legs)

Literature
Guttmann Catalogue, nos. 49 and 50, where she records that on the 12th December 1739 Graf Christian August zu Solms inherited silver from his late sister, Magdalene Christiane Benigna (1717-1738), and paid 30 fl. and 13 kreuzer 6 ch for porcelain cows, sheep and other animals.
