Ulysse Nardin introduced the "Freak" at the Basel Watch Fair. The ingenious and unusual design by Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, a scientist, inventor, historian and watch-maker, allows the owner to set and wind the watch without a crown and to read the time without traditional hands. The "Freak" also employs two further mechanical innovations: the 7-day power-reserve Karrusel movement and the dual-direct escapement. In combination, the watch can run for seven days while the movement rotates once an hour without the need for lubrication as the escapement uses two silicon wheels.
