A Cosway-style binding in near-contemporary purple morocco gilt, upper cover with inset original circular portrait miniature on ivory of Madame Sophie, daughter of Louis XV, after Nattiers, signed 'Mary Wyatt', the miniature with elaborate lozenge-shaped surround built up of pointillé work, four small onlays of red/brown morocco and various small tools, all within a wide outer border of fillets, dot-rolls, small tools, pointillé work and small onlays of red/brown or blue morocco, the lower cover with a similar outer border surrounding a central shaped lozenge of onlaid brown/red morocco tooled with an overall design of gilt strapwork, pointillé work, a large central flower-head tool and small onlays of blue morocco, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and fourth, the others with repeat overall design of pointillé work and small tools, gilt turn-ins, elaborately tooled brown morocco doublures with small onlays of brown red, blue and cream morocco, watered-silk liners, the front liner lettered in gilt 'Binding specially executed , miniature on ivory of Madame Sophie , daughter of Louis XV , after Nattiers portrait , at Versailles', original cloth upper cover annd spine bound at back, top edge gilt, the others uncut.
