The photographs from the Paris brothel series are described as having passed from the collection of Dienne Louys, Paris, to Michel Simon, Paris and thence to the present owner.

The smaller photographs are accompanied by a note stating they are from a series on spanking made in a Parisian brothel, in rue Lepic, circa 1890-1910.
