4o (220 x 150 mm). MANUSCRIPT FACSIMILE ON VELLUM BY GIUSEPPE DELLA SANTA of the late 5th-century Medicean Codex. COMPLETE, without the Aeneid: 12 (introduction and verse in praise of Leopold I, Grand Duke of Tuscany); 214 (1 blank, -2) 3-416 1512 (text). 59 leaves. Uncial script, in black and red ink. (Discolored and stained.) Each quire sewn in 19th-century wrappers. Cloth fall-down-back box, gilt-lettered red morocco spine-strip.
THE DEDICATION MANUSCRIPT, written on vellum by the Medicean Library's scribe, Giuseppe della Santa for Grand Duke Leopold I of Tuscany, the future Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II (r. 1790-92). The introduction lists the editions that had made use of the Medicean Codex, including Foggini's 1741 type facsimile (see previous lot), describes the structure of the manuscript and refers to Bernard de Montfaucon's account in his Bibliotheca bibliothecarum manuscriptorum of 1739.
