Chart of the N and NE coast of Garden Island, autograph manuscript by Henri de Freycinet after a survey by his brother Louis, ink and watercolour on paper, scale, captions and border in ink, inscribed 'Plan d'une partie de L'Ile Bauche sur la côte de la Nouvelle-Hollande Levé en Messidor an 9. [June-July 1801] par Lis Freycinet Enseigne de Vau Latitude 32°.15', Sud Longitude 112°17' Orientale', with contemporary editorial annotation in another hand 'position rapporée au Mouillage de Naturaliste, fixer pr les observations qui u ont été faite' [positions recorded are relative to the anchorage of the Naturaliste at the time], 12 x 9 5/8in. (30.5 x 24.5cm.)
The chart is inscribed in pencil 'Esquisse de l'Isles des amiraur d'apres M Ronsard' and annotated 'No 39. No 20'. The name 'L'Ile Buache in the title was originally written 'L'Ile StCaich' but this has been corrected to 'Buache'.
This chart depicts details of part of the coast of Garden Island off the mouth of the Swan River, almost certainly the first mapping of any part of the island. The chart provided some details for the Baudin Atlas (plate 21). This is in the same hand as Lots 9 and 12.
