Original green cloth, lettered in gilt and blind, with Emerson's famous greeting in gilt at bottom of spine (worn at ends of spine, fore-corners, and at two small spots on front outer joint, inner hinges skilfully repaired); green half morocco slipcase. Provenance: Signature of L.S. Johnson (a Whitman friend?) on inside front cover.
