FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY WILLIAMS: "To Norman my first 'original' for the screen, ever fondly Tennessee Williams." Baby Doll was Williams' first screenplay written at the urging of Elia Kazan, the director of many of Williams' plays and films. An combination of two one-act plays, which are included in this volume, the screenplay touches on Williams' common themes of moral decay and human brutality.
