WORDSWORTH, William (1770-1850) -- Catalogue of the varied and valuable Historical, Poetical, Theological, and Miscellaneous Library of the late venerated Poet-Laureate, William Wordsworth...also a Fine Gallery Picture, by L. Giordano: which will be sold by auction. London: Charles Ambler for John Burton, 19 July 1859.
8o (213 x 135 mm). Hand-colored frontispiece portrait of Keats by Henry Meyer after R. Carruthers. (Some minor pale stains and dust-soiling to title.) Later half morocco gilt, interleaved, edges gilt, by Bayntun. Provenance: Ernest Gore (signature on front free endpaper).
This sale catalogue comprises the only record of Wordsworth's library. The auctioneer's preface reads: "Although it may appear to be noticed in comparitively few instances in the catalogue, almost every book in the library contains evidence of the late poet's identity with its ownership in his own handwriting...and additional interest is given to a large extent, in the more modern portion, by presentation autographs of contemporary authors, including many whose works, privately printed and issued to private friends alone, are not known in the publishing world." A facsimile was printed in 1974. VERY RARE. Blogie III, col. 23 (facsimile only).
