First Illustrated Edition, SIGNED BY WOUK on the title-page, and ADDITIONALLY INSCRIBED BY HIM AND HIS FAMILY MEMBERS TO HIS IN-LAWS on the the half-title. The novel, first published in 1951, was the basis for the 1954 film, starring Humphrey Bogart, Jose Ferrer and Van Johnson. The movie received six Academy Award nominations.
