WURLITZER Band Organ Model 146-a, c. 1922, cloth and nylon grill with painted alpine scene, hand carved and painted adornments, two additional painted scenes, 70 in. high x 80 in. wide x 27 in. deep. This model began life as the source of music and carnival sound at the original carousel on the Santa Monica pier during Hollywood's golden age. Beautiful pictorial decorations adorn the mammoth unit which also sports drums and flags. This 146-A is the beneficiary of a high-end digital upgrade. The facade was finely restored by Lise Liepman at the Tobin Fraley Studios, and the mechanism restored by Dan Horenberger.
