On Her Majesty's Secret Service was apparently originally scheduled to follow Thunderball instead of You Only Live Twice. Peter Hunt was given the Second Unit Director role in You Only Live Twice and was responsible for the filming of the Little Nellie scenes. According to Hunt, these scenes were originally conceived as a car chase, which Hunt felt was rather formulaic and dull. When scouting locations in a helicopter (see Lot 159), he had the idea of using one of these instead of a car for the chase scenes. Production Designer, Ken Adam heard about Wing Commander Ken Wallis' autogyro, Little Nellie, on the radio and simultaneously, Harry Saltzman saw photographs of it in an Aviation magazine and the rest is Bond history.
