It is precisely because Yunizar appreciates the basics in pure creativity, that more often than not he eschews conceptual art and does not place this artistic philosophy at the more conventional stature of importance. He is akin to having a sense of humour with his art rather than making social observations with them. In this present lot Borobudur-brobuduran, the historical monument of Borobudur, which has been featured in many artists' works including that of the senior artist Srihadi Sudarsono's, also featured in this auction (c.f. Lot 122), is the main subject. However, Yunizar steers clear from the reverent manner of representation of this famous attraction and instead defines it in his own way. The famous shape of Borobudur's stupa is repeated randomly in a manner perhaps in reference of pop artist Andy Warhol's repetition of iconic images, though not at all like Warhol's stylised neon works.
Yunizar adopts a light-hearted approach in his treatment of this generational landmark, not as a mark of disrespect but rather to moderate the seriousness of the monument with a more contemporary direction from a young person.
