Numerous plates, many hand-coloured lithographs, by or after Frohawk, Keulemans, Mintern, Richter, Wolf and others, printed by Mintern Brothers and others. Various bindings: 1876-1895 (and indices) in uniform contemporary blue half calf, gilt including animal tools on spines, g.e.; 1896-1899 in uniform red half morocco; 1900-1914 in contemporary uniform cloth.
The Proceedings were issued between 1830 and 1964. This run covers the period during which natural history made some of its most dramatic leaps forward. The new discoveries are ably illustrated by many of the great animal and bird artists of the late-19th century. Nissen ZBI 4744.
