Westwood and many others, including 50 hand-coloured engravings, 316 coloured, hand-coloured or tinted lithographs, 9 maps and 4 tables, occasional illustrations, 4 folding letterpress tables. (Lacking plates I-VI and LVI from vol.III, text leaf B1 in vol.X with two 60mm. repaired tears to the outer margin, occasional spotting, generally light.) Black half morocco bound to match, spines gilt in six compartments with raised bands, the bands highlighted in gilt, lettered in the second and fourth compartments (slight scuffing). A FINE RUN, INCLUDING PAPERS BY MOST OF THE GREATEST ZOOLOGISTS OF THE 19TH CENTURY, AND ILLUSTRATED BY MANY OF THE FINEST NATURAL HISTORY ILLUSTRATORS OF THE TIME. Substantial runs of the Transactions... rarely appear at auction: only the present set and the Bute sets (in 1995) are listed as having sold in the past twenty-five years. The Transactions... continued to be published until 1984, when it was amalgamated with its sister publication The Proceedings.. under the new title The Journal of Zoology.
