Rectangular, the front engraved with the profile of the ship and the Russian inscription 'Imperial yacht 'Poliarnaia zvezda [Polar Star]' launched at St. Petersburg at the wharf of the Baltic Factory on 20 May 1888, in the presence of Their Imperial Majesties the Emperor and Empress and His Imperial Highness General Admiral Aleksei Aleksandrovich', the reverse with further naval dignitaries, marked on reverse, in original velvet and silk-lined leather case

Lot Essay

Admiral Oskar Karlovich Kremer (1829-1904), Admiral (21.08.1896), General Adjutant (26.02.1886). Educated in the Naval Company of the Alexander Cadet School, he graduated as a midshipman from the Navy Corps in 1846. During the Crimean War 1853-1856 he served first at sea and took part afterwards in the defence of Sebastopol where he was wounded. In 1858-1859 he crossed the Pacific Ocean on the clipper 'Razboinik' and took part in the American expedition of the Russian fleet organized by the rear-Admiral Lesovskii (1863-1864). Commanding the corvette 'Variag' he sailed from Kronstadt to Archangel, Novaia Zemlia, Iceland and back.
He became Squadron Major of Tsar Alexander III in 1882 and later Flag Captain. He travelled to England with the Tsarevich in 1893, for the latter's engagment to Queen Victoria's grand-daughter, Alexandra of Hesse. As a member of the State Council he appears in 'The Formal Session of the State Council' painted by Repin in 1903.
