A patinated bronze and marble inkwell
cast from a model by H.Contenot, the green and black striated marble base of stepped hemi-spherical form, mounted with figure of Oedipus seated on rocky ledge, holding staff and resting chin on hand, gazing down at a winged sphinx rising up from front, the ink wells with hinged flamelike circular covers, on five short bun feet, signed in the bronze, stamped foundry mark (damage to marble at reverse) -- 48cm. diam.
