Lot Essay

This is a reduced reproduction of the monument made in 1751 by Johan-Auguste Nahl (1710-1785) in the church at Hindlebank near Berne (now destroyed). The monument was commissioned by Pastor Langhans in memory of his wife.

The original moulds for this piece, which appears to date from the early period of manufacture, are in the Nyon Museum. Other examples of this model are in the Landesmuseum, Zrich, and at Chatsworth, Derbyshire.
