Lot Essay
Mansarover is a delicate watercolour series based upon Krishna and the story of the Gita Govinda. The insects, butterflies and dragonflies are personifications of the artist/God and his consort/Radha.
Ramachandran states 'I sat near the lotus pond and watched the changing hues of colour on large leaves...After three days of observation, the changing moods of this magnificent lotus pond became a lotus pond of my mind, Mansarover, providing a Gita Govinda setting for the God of little things to enact a playful activity - Lila of insects, butterflies and dragonflies, swinging between the conscious and the subconscious.' (Kala Yatra, The Lotus Pond at Obeshwar, New Delhi, 1997, introduction.)
