A near pair of Italian carved walnut armchairs

Each with rectangular padded back and seat, flanked to each side by a scroll arm rest headed by a putto, supported to the front by a blackamoor figure, one on dolphin feet joined by an 'X'-shaped stretcher centred by a finial, the other on four naturalistic feet joined by an 'X'-shaped foliate stretcher, both upholstered in burgundy-colour velvet (2)

Lot Essay

These armchairs are copies of the celebrated models designed and executed by Andrea Brutsolon (b. 1662) for the galleria in Pietro Venier's Palazzo in San Vio.
