A George III writing slope, early 19th century
Later decorated overallp with a painted scene of Venus and Cupid, with foliate swags above and scrolling foliage below, all on a striped red and gold ground, silk lined interior, a drawer to the side -- 22¼ x 11 x 6¼in. (56.5 x 28 x 16cm.)
This writing box was reputedly given by Frank Schuster to Alice Sophia Caroline Millais, third daughter of Sir John E. Millais Bart. P.R.A. on the occasion of her wedding to Charles B Stuart Wortley, afterwards Lord and Lady Stuart of Wortley, on 6th January 1886.
