The half-title bound in as a title to the second volume. 2-page advertisement and 16-page publisher's 'List of Illustrated Works' dated January 1852 bound in at the end of the second volume. Woodcut title vignette and illustrations, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 13 original pen and ink, sepia and watercolour drawings by Stothard and 331 18th- and 19th-century engraved, etched, and lithographic prints by Day, Grignion, J. and W. Heath, R. Cromek, W. and J. Finden, Neagle, the majority after Stothard, one hand-coloured, some proofs before letter, many mounted or inlaid to size. Late 19th-century crushed brown morocco gilt by Riviere & Son, the covers with triple gilt fillet borders, the upper covers with the gilt crests of the Earls of Derby, the spines gilt in 6 compartments, titled in 2 and dated at the foot, the other compartments ornately decorated, roll-tooled gilt turn ins, gilt edges (spine and board margins faded, extremities rubbed, corners bumped).
