French non-rigid airships and the Wellmann Polar and trans-Atlantic expeditions
A collection of press and other photographs, and a quantity of press cuttings, relating to the experimental airships Astra, Dixmude, Liberté, Marchal, Malecot, Ville de Paris, Zodiac, Clément-Bayard, and others. Details include power units, crews, crowd scenes at launching ceremonies, construction details, accidents and ground to air views.
The Wellman expedition material includes several portraits of Wellman, details of the transatlantic airship and the North Pole craft, group photographs of Wellmann and Vaniman with supporting press cuttings from The Scientific American, Journal des Voyages, L'Illustration, The Daily Telegraph, Illustrated London News and others (80 approx. plus press cuttings contained in two ringbinders)
