A CARVED RED LACQUER RECTANGULAR BOX AND COVER
Ming Dynasty, Late 15th/16th Century
The cover well carved with a scene of a bearded foreigner wearing a fur-brimmed cap adorned with a long slender plume stepping over his fallen halberd as he dangles a long-stemmed blossom above the head of a Buddhistic lion, with blossoming camellia branches on the sides, all reserved against a diaper ground, the interior lacquered in black
