Lot Essay

This plate is so called as the building bears a number of similarities to a known view of the house on a Yongzheng punchbowl in the collection of the Marquess of Exeter at Burghley House. Cf.Howard and Ayers, op.cit., pl.257, p.261, who suggest that the depiction may be derived from known English delftware examples inscribed Burleigh together with date 1745
