Property from the Estate of LOUIS BOWEN, New York
Louis Bowen became known for his speciality wall coverings. Starting before the War, he became the partner of Dorothy Hammerstein when she opened an office in New York in 1939. On his return he set up Louis W. Bowen Inc. a company which manufactured speciality wall coverings. Originally taking his inspiration from childhood memories, he turned increasingly to the East, around which he travelled finding numerous new influences, translating them into designs for clients' interiors.
His own Park Avenue apartment reflected this eclectic mixture with a combination of of East Asian artefacts, European, mostly French furniture and Iznik pottery. The other contents of the apartment were sold at Christie's New York 5 September 2002.
