Hand-coloured woodcut title with the arms of Emperor Maximilian II, numerous large woodcut illustrations, some full-page, one hand-coloured, some tables printed in red and black. (Some crude laminated repairs with loss of text or image, including woodcut title, soiled, some margins frayed, some waterstaining). Old blind-stamped vellum over wooden boards. (Soiled and worn). Provenance: F. R. Martin (booklabel); Saint Clara Convent Archives, Simsinawa, Wis. (marginal stamp). Sold not subject to return.
Fourth edition of Severinus' ancient version of the complete Bible, first published in 1529 and reprinted in 1537 with notes and variant readings in 1537. The text is corrected so as to conform more closely with the Latin Vulgate. cf. Darlowe & Moule 2182.
