A FINE AND RARE AMBER AND LAPIS LAZULI ROSARY-BRACELET, SHOU CHUAN
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY

Comprising eighteen amber beads, evenly divided by a larger lapis lazuli bead and a double-gourd bead suspending a floral pendant centred with a pink tourmaline framed by kingfisher feathers, terminating in two tourmaline toggles, spaced with clusters of seed pearls

Lot Essay

Rosaries were made of a variety of precious and semi-precious material, including jadeite, coral, ruby, lapis lazuli, turquoise, amber and fragrant wood. Comparable examples may be found in the National Palace Museum Exhibition of Ch'ing Dynasty Costume Accessories Catalogue, Taiwan, 1986, nos. 65-71, including a lapis lazuli example, no. 70.
