A BRONZE FOOD VESSEL AND COVER, DOU
WARRING STATES PERIOD (475-221 BC)

The deep vessel supported on a splayed foot, cast in low relief around the body, domed cover and foot with bands containing horizontal registers of curled dragons within square cells, with a raised rope twist band at the waist, cast in the interior of the flat circular knop in light relief with a coiled phoenix, applied to the sides with a pair of loop handles, the surface with blue and green encrustation

Lot Essay

Acquired by the present owner in August 1967.

A dou with related decoration and an animal roundel to the cover was included in the Hong Kong O.C.S., Exhibition of Ancient Chinese and Ordos Bronzes, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 1990, Catalogue, no. 39.
