Lot Essay

The Bagues manufactory was founded in Paris in 1840, and originally produced bronze fittings for churches. With the advent of electricity in the late 19th century the company began to produce lighting, and soon gained a reputation for the quality and style of its designs. -Bagues lighting was soon ordered for La Chambre de la Reine at Versailles, as well as the French Salon at Claridges Hotel in 1909, the Dorchester Hotel and also the Paris Ritz, (the latter commissioning candelabra). Since then over 8,000 types have been manufactured, largely in bronze or iron, and crystal or glass.
