Lot Essay

Also known as Vigneron, the present model was conceived by Etienne-Maurice Falconet in 1757. The JB monogram incised on the surface of the base is for Jean-Jacques Bachelier in his role as director of the sculpture workshop, 1751-1757. For another example, see The Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection; Christie's, New York, 21-22 March 1991, lot 126.
