Manuscript map in ink on paper, outlines hand-colored in blue and white, edges mounted to pasteboard, board with manuscript date 1754 on verso and with label of lithographer in Louvain. Image 19½ x 29½ in. (495 x 749 mm), sheet 25 x 32½ in. (635 x 825 mm). (Paper slightly toned overall.) Matted, framed and glazed.
An attractive 18th-century map of North America, extending from the Arctic Ocean to the northernmost region of South America. The map is detailed in its identification of cities, islands and bodies of water. At bottom left is a vignette of a Laplander in a sled being pulled by a reindeer. At right is a lengthy manuscript legend in French.
