A BLACK PATINATED BRONZE MASK, 'MASQUE DE LA DANSE SACREE'
Cast after a model by Victor Segoffin, 1905
Signed in the maquette V. or Segoffin und numbered 16, with a monogram
Pupil of the sculptors Cavelier and Barrias, Victor Ségoffin (Toulouse 1867 - Paris 1925) was awarded with the Prix de Rome in 1897. He was a member of the 'Société des Artistes Français' where he exhibited regularly. The French State commissioned him a marble group La danse sacrée ou guerrière in 1903, then exhibited at the Salon. He obtained an award for this sculpture. The mask we are selling is a bronze cast of the face of the group. Other casts are part of the collections of museums of Lyon, Mont de Marsan, Bordeaux etc.. The Musée d'Orsay presents a cast of the mask and the original marble group in its exhibition rooms
