(Large single wormhole throughout affects text a little). 18th-century tree calf gilt (rubbed). Provenance: Numerous contemporary marginalia in the second work - Repton School (bookplate).     CAESAR, Gaius Julius (100-44 B.C.). Commentarii, nouis emendationibus illustrati ... Ex bibliotheca Fului Vrsini. Antwerp: Christopher Plantin, 1570. 8°. Woodcut device on title, 2 folding woodcut maps, 5 large illustrations in the text, with the final colophon leaf. Late 17th-century calf, flat spine and sides with a double fillet border (head of spine and upper hinge worn). Provenance: shaved ownership inscription, dated 1598, on A1r and several marginalia in his hand - unidentified armorial bookplaste with motto 'Avancez' - L.A. Burd (armorial bookplate). Adams C53.
