[FRENCH MUSIC]. Collection of manuscript music, probably copied by an enthusiastic amateur and deriving from a variety of sources, with melody and text of airs from various operas (a number by Jean Baptiste Lully 1632-87), chansons, Italian songs, motets (Panis angelicus, a "Motette du Ste. Sacrement") lamentations, a Magnificat and an English hunting song ("Hark, hark, hark ye storm grows loud"), etc. [France, ca.1710-20].
Oblong 8o. 182pp., written in at least two hands in ink, containing a melodic line with text underlay, four four-line staves to the page, text and extra verses in an italic hand, musical ornaments carefully notated in some songs. Contemporary dark red morocco, covers paneled in gilt, gilt spine with initials "MB" at base of spine, marbled endleaves, (Some rubbing to corners and joints.) Provenance: Contemporary signature of "Mary Belasyse" on front flyleaf, gilt initials "MB" on spine.
