A GERMAN JEWELLED AND GOLD-MOUNTED HARDSTONE SNUFF-BOX AND A GEORGE III GOLD-MOUNTED HARDSTONE NÉCESSAIRE the box probably Dresden, circa 1750; the nécessaire English, circa 1770, later struck with French provincial post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold Cartouche-shaped jasper box with bevelled base, the hinged cover applied with a pierced and chased gold plaque depicting two putti amongst foliate rococo scrolls and inset with jewelled flowers, the reeded gold mounts centred by a diamond-set foliate thumbpiece echoed at the base mount; together with a tapering flattened rectangular ribbed bloodstone case, with reeded horizontal gold mounts and hinged gold suspension ring on top, diamond pushpiece, the interior fitted with gold-mounted steel tweezers with incorporated nail file, a gold bodkin with incorporated ear-spoon, gold-mounted steel scissors and a folding penknife with chased gold handle (tablets and pencil missing) The box 2¼ in.
